Sharepoint Portal Server uses the Exchange Information Store to store all documents and data. If you are planning to install SharePoint on the same computer as an Exchange server, my first tip is don't!. It can be plagued with all manner of problems.

If Exchange and Sharepoint must co-exist, make sure Exchange is installed first and is at Service Pack 1 before proceeding with the installation of Sharepoint Portal Server.

then that might explain why folders where just disappering. I had installed exchange first but i don't know if its got sp1 or not, so if i install sp1 for exchange will that fix the problem that i am having with sharepoint. i take it i should uninstall sharepoint portal first and then install sp1 for exchange and then reinstall sharepoint portal?
