Boot Up Slow
On a friend's computer, I have ran everything, anti-virus, spyware removal, windows updates, disk cleanup and defrag. The computer used to take forever to load up from normal login page to each individual users login. A couple of days ago, I ran a registry cleaner, but now it only takes forever to load up to the different logins on the xp page. After selecting the users, it loads up to their pages fast. The other problem is that sometimes control panel will open and other times it says that windows explorer has caused an error.

Make sure the computer is not trying to log into a domain. It's under the network settings.

My thoughts are that it may be a program or device driver which is causing the hang.
Check if the problem started after a program install, driver upgrade, or installation of new hardware. Also run msconfig and see whats in the startup group that isn`t necesarry. |

Yeah that's a good place to start if all the network settings are correct.
Check to see if there is a file called vya.dll. I remember a computer that took forever and was stuck on "Loading personal settings" and this was in there. It didn't show up on any scans. There's a way to modify the registry so that the file name of each program that is starting up shows in the dialog box instead of "Loading personal settings." Forgot how to do it though. If anyone remembers please post. |
