pc reboots upon connection to the internet
hi
i just had a verry wierd phone-call from a friend of mine first off this is what i know by heart of her setup some siemens pc (if i remeber correctly a p3 800 mhz but i might be wrong) running windows 2000 AV = norton 2003 (virus definitions are up to date) browser = ie (6) if i rember correctly she is connected to the net with a usb adsl modem (thompson) she told me that her internet connection had been slow for the last couple of months and that a maintenance technician from the phone company (might have been the ISP) had replaced a couple of cables and that that had fixed it but ever since then they had been getting an insane amount of anti-virus "and other" warnings (i can only assume the "other warnings" are spyware warnings) whenever she tries to connect to the internet the process of dialing in is ok, but whenever she opens IE the entire pc simply reboots i would advise housecall but without a valid inet connection.... does annyone have anny idea of what might be the cause of this and how i might fix this (other than reinstall i did that last time took me 6 hours to get the whole thing back to how she liked it) thanks Last edited by corosus; 04-24-2005 at 05:07 PM. |

Bring antivirus and antispyware apps over on a USB flash drive or burned to a CD.

Not long after rebooting back to windows and opening a new connection to the net i got a bluescreen concerning Alcan5wn.sys after googleing iti foiud out this is the driver for the modem does annyone have anny clue what the cause of this problem might be???? thanks Last edited by corosus; 04-25-2005 at 07:58 AM. |
