Accidental Win 2k dual boot
I accidentally installed Win 2000 on a second hard drive partition on my computer. I was trying to copy the files to the primary partition, but somehow I ended up with a dual boot.
I deleted the files from the second partition, but unfortunately, now, when I boot, I am always asked to choose which installation of Windows I want to run. (only one works) Any hints on editing this out of the boot sector so that I don't have to be asked this each time?

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery. Choose the one that works and uncheck the box to display list. Alternatively, edit the boot.ini file found in the root of C:

Thanks, that worked great. I've had some other troubles with user accounts.
I started loading all my programs as a user in the Administrator group, and when I switched to a standard user, all my accounts and preferences changed. A new folder was created in the Docs and Settings, and the computer name was appended to the user name. Some of the programs I installed won't run as different users, so I want to use this user name, but the profile is now inaccessible. Any suggestions here? |
