Stupid Win 98SE
I have a really old and crappy computer running Windows 98SE. Its really crap and I have been running on the same install of Windows for over 3 years. I know this is dumb but I have my reasons. I'll just add the install is so crappy now that I can't even run System Defrag anymore. So lately, every now and then I get a blue screen and this pops up.
KEBUGCHECKEX : called by 700465 Error Code is 0 Parameters : c0faaf90 16604wq 134400d c29Z0Zb0 System Halted Yea thats the prob, It comes up pretty random. I think some fiules have been severely corrupted and it is due for a reformat. Anyone got any ideas? |

Most likely the best option is to save all your files and settings and do a re-install. If it`s been 3 years on that installation and depending on what level of maintenance has been performed you`re probably way overdue. Not to mention what spyware\adware is on the system.
A bug check is caused by an unrecoverable inconsistency in a system detected error. The system calls KEBUGCHECKEX only in cases where there is a fatal, unrecoverable error and causes a shutdown rather than generating a logfile and continuing to run. |

If this is a major-brand box, you can let the Recovery Disks do the major work of the reformat/reinstall. And the drivers there on the disk are at least usable enough to get started. If any malware was present, the reformat usually takes care of that (though you'd want to scan any additional data before adding it back into the computer). You'll also want to get the antivirus & firewall going before going back on the Internet, and then heading straight to Windows Update for the Security patches.
If one of the big reasons you've put off system maintenance was that you have a lot a files on the drive that aren't backed up, and that you wish to keep = you might be able to salvage them (once you've cleaned them up with thorough anti-malware scans) by trying an over-the-top reinstall. The details are in a thread in the PC Mechanic Tips & Tricks forum http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=70846 You could also slave the drive in another system (one that's well-protected with up-to-date antivirus) and copy data you wish to save from there. Tips on that are also in the Tips & Tricks forum http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=106182 (and note the caveats for the procedure added later in that thread) You may as well test the hardware a bit, too, to make sure that you're not spending time trying to revive failing parts. MemTest86 can test the memory http://www.memtest.org A bootable diagnostic floppy that can test the hard drive from DOS is usually downloadable from the manufacturer's website. A well-known testing suite like SiSoft Sandra can test several components, but requires that Windows is healthy enough to run http://www.sisoftware.uk.co Best of luck . . . Gary |

its a side issue (it wont fix ur direct problem) but u might want to consider checking out 98lite if u feel ur performance is unbearable.

yea its what i thought, a reformat is due. I
was just asking if anyone knew of anyway to fix that problem. I do run adaware and spybot so i have spyware in check but yea i guess something like norton couldn't go astray. Thanks for the advice and AC/DC rules! |
