I had to reload xp and the system seems to be working ok now, however when I try to get into a folder in "my documents" is says that it is inaccessable. any ideas how I may be able to access this folder would be appreciated.

Was the folder encrypted? Do you have administrator rights? Do you have rights to the folder?

Ok maybe I am being real dense, but I can't find a simple file sharing option in folder options. I am running XP home.

Tools->Folder Options->View tab->last item on the list (if home has it)

You have to log in as administrator using safe mode, take ownership of the folders and files, and give everyone full control. You can't turn off simple file sharing in XP Home.
