Windows XP freezing

I recently bought a D-Link Wireless adapater for my desktop PC. When I was trying to install it I had a Linksys wireless adapter already plugged in. So I attempted to swap the card and accidently removed the wrong card which was my ATI Radeon 9800 card. Then i put that back in and screwed it in and attempted again. This time i accidently unscrewed and removed my broadband nic card...3rd times a char right? RIGHT! So i unscrewed and removed my linksys wireless adapter and put in my new D-Link wireless adapater.

Everything started to run smoothly until my mom was playing some Bejeweled 2. The game froze on her when she was advancing to level 2. I found this somewhat hard to believe and heck she even got a blue screen on it which i rarely ever get.

So when the computer restarts it brings up an IE window saying that an undetectable error had occured within windows and had shut down to prevent any further damage. It could not find out why this error occured or why it happened. Now this troubles me..so i start and attempt to re-install softwares, programs, updates. Heck i even went inside and removed the video card and put it back in. That still didn't work. Then i uninstalled the drivers to the video card and restarted my computer. Hoping this would actually help it didn't it still froze on me.

I had scanned for viruses and had a few trojans on there 23 or so..(mind you my dad had handed down this computer to us)

So we cleaned those out as best as we could and still receiving crashes.

So i decided lets do a reinstall let's delete the partition and reinstall freshly..

After about an hour of installing and updating programs I get a blue screen. If i get an blue screen error again i will post the error code.

After trying to re install windows xp sp2 right at the windows update screen i get another freeze.

So now im wondering what in the world is hurting my computer

Before i reinstalled i was already on windows service pack 2...

thanks for taking the time to read my post

Update: I just checked the error report and it seems these files will be included in the error report

C:\windows\Minidump\Mini050305-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Ebcomp\LOCALS~1\WER5.tmp.dir00\sysdate.xml

Update 2: The online error report says during the crash analysis, it noticed the BIOS version on my computer does not match specifications for the processor that is installed on my computer.

First off, check the bios and make sure your cpu has proper recognition. Remove the D-link card and try it without that card for a while. I just had a D-link wireless card do the same thing on XP. It wouldn't boot to the Welcome screen. Just hung on the hour glass just before the Welcome screen. Removed the card and the problem went away. I called D-Link tech support and found that their cards require installing the software and driver from the CD BEFORE physically installing the card in the computer. HTH

If you want to help the site and get some great info at the same time, buy the PC Mech Disk from the front page. It's chocked full of good stuff.
