Is windows messenger a security risk to a corporate network? Is there a such thing as a secured messenger that secures its connection so it isn't prone to hacker attempts to get into the corporate newtork?

IM clients use secure connections to secure the content of the messages, not to secure the program itself. I think that MSN messenger has had some security flaws that could have been exploited to take control of a computer, but most IM clients are like that. What would probably be best would be to get some kind of messaging app that is not open to the outside world, keeping it within the firewall.

thanks for the info, i keep trying to tell the customer that i am working for that messenger is not safe, it leaves a port open on the network and hackers will take advantage of that. They keep telling me that there is a secured version of messenger (the program).
