Updates are ready to be installed
Ok I am getting ready to try my experiment with the 17 critical updates which remain to be downloaded and installed after SP2 on XP Pro. I am going to slipstream them into my XP Pro with slipstreamed SP2.
My first question is in what folder are these 17 updates (downloads) saved which are ready to be installed? And second, can I copy them off to CD before I agree to install them? And question three; are these updates deleted from the hard disk after you install them or do they remain there? If they are not deleted after they are installed I would not have to wait to burn them before I install them. Just noticed Eskimo's post which asks the same thing but no one actually answered his question which are my questions one and two of three. The Microsoft link for all the updates is a little vague in that it does not give you the update number for each and every one, just a few actually show the number. Thanks, Alan Last edited by tacoeater; 05-05-2005 at 05:05 PM. |

Download them directly from the M$ website, to any place you want. Then slipstream them, and install them when you want it. Just write the number of the update in google, then you'll find the correct M$ site where you can download it, like these: KB873333 KB873339 KB885250 KB885835 KB885836 KB886185 KB886903 (for .NET 1.1) KB887742 KB888113 KB888302 KB890175 KB890830 (Tool for Malware Removal) KB890859 KB890923 KB891781 KB893066 KB893086 (these are the 17 that Windows-Update showed me for a SP2 system with .NET 1.1 framework installed) RJ

thanks rj.
the reason i wanted to let automatic update download them (and then choose not to install them) is so that i could see the actual update numbers which i could then (if i can't get them off the hard drive) search for them by number on google. The next install I do will get the benefit of all the wonderful updates slipstreamed. What is your opinion of the Media Player 10? Should I not do that cause some systems might not be good enough for the newer player or should I try it too? I am going to save each directory, xppro with sp2, xppro with sp2 and the 17, xppro with sp2 and the 17 and so forth..... AND I want to take the time to express my gratitude to all the moderators and the members who make this such a great forum! Alan Last edited by tacoeater; 05-05-2005 at 05:13 PM. |

ok,
there were 16 updates. i downloaded them from microsoft. they did not all install. some of them gave errors about comand line switches or other error messages. the six that gave errors were: kb887472 - Messenger Patch kb890830 malicious tool--some message about quiet mode kb885250 - cannot be integrated after KB885835 kb887797 - cumulative OExpress kb890047 kb884020 - loopback problem i had fun experimenting with it and i will try and install something just to test it out. my only concern is that the integration suggested files were copied to folders then the error messages popped up. perhaps it doesn't actually copy it till it is ready to pop up the successful integration box. we'll see. thanks for your help.
