I can't figure out this Win Xp / HD issue!

I put this system togather myself, asus motherboard, 3.2 p4, and a HD thats been used on another pc for maybe a week. Well everything booted up fine on the intial start up. I inserted the win xp disc because i wanted to reformat the drive for the new pc. The drive formatted fine but when the winxp interface loaded up (The screen that says win xp - 39 mins to complete) it just stalls and doesnt do a thing. Its a western digital HD and the motherboard seems to be running fine. What could it be? Thanks for all the help!
