Sony Laptop Windows ME Safe Mode Only

Kids stuck an XP cd in the laptop and, although they never got to the install of XP, the computer now keeps booting to safe mode.
seems i remember hearing about a way to clear something so that it will return to normal. No hardware or software changes have been made and it was working fine before the XP Cd incident.
thanks,
Alan

Have you tried a system restore in safe mode?

No I have not tried that. It just seems I recall that there was some setting you could clear somewhere for the continual boot to safe mode.
I was thinking of installing XP but reconsidered cause it is a 700 Mhz system and because on the Sony site it says you have to update the bios (highly advised) before installing XP.
I may just do a clean install of ME. All the drivers are on the site. The main thing I wanted to change was that there is a 2Gig partition for the OS and a 6Gig partition for data. I would much prefer one partition. Whoever had this before had nada zilch in the 6 gig data partition.
I still am curious about the clearing of the setting to stop the booting into safe mode.
thanks glc,
alan

That's the way Sony partitions their drives, and it's a pain in the butt.

Yup, pain in the butt, stewpid actually...
For now I went into msconfig advanced and enabled the startup menu which starts on option one normal mode with a press of the return key.
If I find someone who wants to buy this critter I will fdisk and create the one partation and reinstall ME.
Thanks for the help.

This really applies to 95 and 98, but it's worth a look.
