Hey all,
I'm trying to setup a file server on my network. The wife's computer is a eMachines Celeron 400 and the "server" is a Dell Optiplex 150 350Mhz. I shouldn't have any issues with networking them, but I see a pontential conflict with 2000's network software versions being older than XP's. Am I just paranoid here or is there a genuine concern? |

Simple file sharing should work just fine. You can share files between versions of Windows much more dissimilar than XP and 2K. I share files between an XP home desktop and a 98 laptop without any problems.

Thanks, I appreciate the quick reply. How would I go about doing it. Just share the two hard disks with permissions or is there something more?

Yes, sharing the directories or disks you want to share should be all you need.

2000 Pro doesn't support simple file sharing, so you have to set up users or enable the guest account.

Administrator won't work? I have admin accounts on both machines so I can't just setup a quick file share and grant permissions to both as the everyone user profile?

If the password for Administrator is the same on both machines, you should be fine.
