PC will not shutdown or restart

Hi all,

I have a p4 1.6, asus p4b with win xp pro. If I try to shutdown it will log off and say shutting down but then just hang there. The same thing happens when I try to restart and once in a while, 1 out of ten times, it does shut down corectly.

I did reload xp and try dif video card and memory already.

it may be due to a overload of programs to close down, when windows sends a message to programs to shut down, the response time may take too long and hence the shutdown screen hangs.

i forgot what the solution is... :/
