XP Home --- "Locks Up"?

New PC home-built - Saga continue - Got XP HOME (oem - legal) running on Soyo Dragon Lite MB, 2.7g Celeron, 120g WD HD, 1.2g ram ..........................

When into Explorer (6.x) (with all the latest Microsoft "critical"
downloads) - every once in a while, especially when Explorer/mouse
sits quiet for a few minutes - XP/MOUSE "LOCK UP"? Can't bring PC
or Explorer or Mouse back to life, cant even cntrl-alt-delete. Just all
locked up?

Yesterday - I downloaded SpyBot - it found like 17 things, and
"fixed". I downloaded Logitech's latest mouse driver sw. I ran
AdAware. And I ran Registry-Doctor and fixed a few things?

I suspect perhaps there's still something in my newly created
BIOS - that's amiss?

Do you have the SY-P4X400 model mobo? You mentioned something about a newly created BIOS. Which BIOS did you d/l? I searched the mfgs. website and this board seems to have been discontinued. You also might be having problems with the chipset which is a VIA. Give this website a look concerning the VIA chipset http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/faq/s...lockups.html#2. BTW is that a wireless or PS/2 mouse you're using? Just my opinion maybe someone else can really pinpoint the problem.

XP Still Locks Up?

My SOYO P4X400 Dragon Lite MB, and now IBM PS/2 mouse -
seems still to lock-up whenever it feels like it.

I downloaded VIA's 4-in-1 drivers. Locked couple times since then.
I changed "CPU to PCI Write Buffer" to DISABLE, I changed
AGP FASTWRITE to Enable. Could not find LATENCY TIMER?

I almost downloaded Soyo's BIOS update - but they have so
many warnings about ominious failures - I couldn't get myself
to do it.

In my systems list, under control-panel, it shows PHOENIX
BIOS is installed = Soyo says otherwise (AMD or something).

....ps: I changed to my old IBM PS/2 marble roller no-scroll know
MOUSE. This is the first time I got this far, without locking-up???!!!
