My CD/RW and DVD drive stop working. I using Window 2000 OS. When I went to device manager to troubleshoot the issue I get this message "Your registry might be corrupted (code 19). My question is there a work around that I can make in the registry to enable my CD/RW and DVD drive?

Code 19
Your registry may be bad. (Code 19) To check your registry, click Check Registry. If the registry is bad, Windows will restart your system and go back to a previous registry that is good. Solution button: Check Registry This code means that the registry returned an unknown result. To resolve this issue, follow the recommended solution, which will run Scanreg.exe. If this does not resolve the issue, type "scanreg /restore" (without quotation marks) from a command prompt. Finally, remove the device from Device Manager, and then redetect it using the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel.

Thanks Macko72. I tried all of the above suggestion and I still don't have a working cd/rw or dvd drive. Device manager still displays an error code 19. I wasn't able to run scan.exe from the c:\> prompt. I get this message 'scanreg.exe' is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file. If I can't get to cd drive how will I be able to restore my pc? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
