XP restart loop madness!!
I just downloaded an XP update, and now my system is in a endless restart loop. After the installation I was instructed to restart the system. It gets as far as the widows XP screen then goes blank for about 30 seconds and restarts all over again, this continues forever.
When I try to boot from the Windows CD, it starts out correct with the Windows setup screen, but then gets an error that reads “File\i836\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7”. Any ideas where to go now? Or should I just get a new hard drive, start over, slave the old one in and recover what I can? As always thx for the help comosum |

Thx glc but no luck there. I also followed this article http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;318729 and replaced the Ram and reset the BIOS, but that didn’t solve it either.

Yup it’s legal all right. Here are the latest developments. I purchased a new hard drive and decided to start from scratch; however I don’t seem to be in any better shape. Now I get one of two errors.
The original “File \i386Ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7”. Or “INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 32768. Setup cannot continue press any key to exit.” Could this be a hardware problem? I tried changing out my two RAM chips and placing them in different sockets, but still received the same errors. I might try buying some more memory and give that a try. Oh yea I also tried a different XP from a DELL laptop. I know it won’t install, but I just wanted to see how far I could get. It produced the same errors. Any more thoughts? |

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP. NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter. After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it. SYMPTOMS When you install Windows XP, you may receive the following error message: ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded Error Code 7 Back to the top Back to the top CAUSE This issue may occur if your computer's BIOS has issues when ACPI is enabled. Back to the top Back to the top RESOLUTION To resolve this issue: 1. If you are upgrading Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition, follow the troubleshooting steps that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: 310064 HOW TO: Troubleshoot Windows XP Problems During Installation When You Upgrade from Windows 98 or Windows Me Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step. 2. Perform a clean installation of Windows XP: a. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. b. If Windows automatically detects the CD-ROM, click Install Windows to start the Windows XP Setup Wizard. If Windows does not automatically detect the CD-ROM, click Start, click Run, type CD-ROM drive letter:\setup.exe, and then click OK. c. Press ENTER. d. Click New Installation, and then click Next. e. Follow the instructions on your screen. 3. When you receive the "Press F6 to load SCSI/Raid Drivers" prompt, press F7 to bypass Advanced Configuration and PowerInterface (ACPI) detection. 4. Finish the installation of Windows XP. http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp Last edited by macko72; 05-28-2005 at 11:22 AM. |

Thx for the suggestion macko72, but no dice. I have to admit I’m beginning to get very frustrated with this whole thing. Any other hardware problems that could cause this? All the problems started after a widows update reboot. I assumed the problems were software, but now I have a new hard drive and still no luck.
