Pissed Explorer.exe memory error during logon

M$ sucks!!!! I have winxp pro edition that the school gave me over a year ago. I registered the software at the beginning and have never been asked to do that again until the other day. My system is set up to do auto updates. Well I downloaded the current update and it said to reboot, which I did.

At first it was taking me to the registration screen and it asked for the number on the case. I put the number in and it said no good. So I hit register later thinking I would just do it after I logged on. It booted me from the system. When I tried rebooting it hung up. This happened a few times. Now when it reboots it prompts me at the login screen/icon, I type in my password and it waits a very long time and then it comes up with a screen that says - "explorer.exe at memory xxxxxxxxxx could not read at location xxxxxxxxxx" (or something similiar) and asks if I want to debug. I say no. I brings up another type of error message and it goes to a blank desktop. No icons no nothing. I have tried repairing the system with the CD and it does not work. I have two HD's on the system and installed WinXp on the other drive. I am able to look at files from the original drive so I now the original HD didn't crap out. I don't think I have a memory problem as I have over a gig. The problem started after it downloaded a damn M$ security update...%$#$#&# Any suggestions? I really do not want to have to wipe the drive and lose all of my programs and files to simply install a fresh version. I wonder if I can access a go-back period on the original drive? Thanks!!

This repair install will remove all updateds and return it to basic(state when installed) witout affecting data important to you so you may have to install all updates(that you need ) all over again!!!
