Computer freezing

I have win 2000, last week i installed a game when i tried to play it it said corrupt intsllation, i uninsatlled it and was meant to restart and never, i reinsatlled the game and was playing it then my computer froze. After turning of at the power to restart it now feezes often. I have noticed it happens some of the time when changin song in media player. I have tried uninsatlling the game from add/remove programs, program files and from start menu but cant and unisnatll isnt in program files. When i turn my computer on after been of for the night it seem to be ok for longer but then starts and does it more foten sometimes. Will it be safe to reinstall windows without the computer crashing during it and i wont be able to would the problem been form the game insatllation what would this have affected then.

A pop or bang? That's usually a capacitor blowing. Have you opened up the computer and looked inside for any damage yet? Could be something on the motherboard or inside the power supply.

Being that you have 2 threads going on the same issue, I'm closing this one as I feel the problem has been better identified in the other one.
