System restore on an external hard drive, any point?

Yesterday while I had “hide protected operating system files” uncheck I noticed that there was a system restore folder on my external hard drive (which I only use for backup of all my data). I then deleted it and disabled system restore for the drive. I had no idea that system restore had been “monitoring” this drive, which I guess makes sense because it does not know if it is internal or external. Is there any reason to leave it on? I leave it on for C (let it use 1% of my drive, which gives me about a month roll back) just in case, but I really don’t see how it could help on my external. Plus if I try to roll back C it may mess up if my external is not on as it may want to roll that back too.

It's not necessary on drives not containing the O/S or programs.

Right click on "my computer" > properties > "system restore" tab > select the drive letter > click "settings" and tick the box to disable system restore for that drive.

I prefer to turn it off with non OS drives/partitons, I have lost photos, mp3s and other data that wasn't part of the restore point on a data partition once.

I switch system restore off completely - between hard-drive images and a daily backup of data i really see no need for it. Also System Restore has a nasty habit of 'backing up' malware infections as well.

System restore doesn't backup data (at least not on main system drive) so i really don't see what its gonna backup on a data partition.
