Gentlemen,
A few months ago I purchased a completely new system. It consists of the following hardware: 1. aBit KT7A-RAID motherboard (Award BIOS) 2. AMD 1Gig. Processor 3. ATI All In Wonder 128 Pro AGP (Video In/Out card) 4. (4) 46.1 Gig. IDE ATA-100 Hard Drives in a RAID-1 setup as Drive C 5. 50 x CD-ROM (IDE [Drive D]) 6. 12 x 10 x 32 CD-RW (IDE [Drive E]) 7. 250Meg. Internal Zip Drive (IDE [Drive F]) 8. 56k Internal modem 9. Generic sound card 10. 256 Meg. memory I WAS running all this under Windows 98SE UNTIL I had a problem after running "Speed Disk" (from Norton Utilities Version 4.0). This completely ruined one of my four drives and I was unable to even FDISK it in order to get it running again, now I am down to 3 46.1Gig drives instead of the original 4. Anyway after sending an E-Mail to MicroSoft (which I NEVER got a reply) and to Norton asking if either Windows 98SE and/or Norton 4.0 were compatible with a RAID system. Norton suggested that I upgrade to Norton SystemWorks 2001 and also to upgrade to Windows 2000 Pro. I did both. BUT I HATE WINDOWS 2000!!!! Now the problem is that whenever I try to use the Video In portion of the ATI program I get a message telling me that "The TV player failed to initialize the video" and nothing happens. I have checked all the hardware settings in the Control Panel and I DO NOT have any yellow OR red flags showing anywhere so there doesn't seem to be any problems. The ONLY thing I can think of is that I do have a LOT of hardware sharing the SAME IRQ's (Number 7, that is). Here is a list: 1. ALL In Wonder 128 Pro AGP 2. MPU-401 Compatible MIDI device 3. C-Media CM8738 Audio (Sound Card) 4. HPT370 UMDA/ATA-100 RAID Controller 5. LT Win Modem 6. VIA USB Universal Host Controller 7. VIA USB Universal Host Controller I have tried to change the IRQ settings for the modem, USB controllers, the video card, and the soud card. The problem is that Windows 2000 won't let me change ANYTHING like Windows 98SE did, either that OR ELSE I am just not as savy with Windows 2000 as I was with Windows 98SE. I had to download the video card drivers for Windows 2000 and I installed them according to ATI's memo, but the Video In still doesn't work. Can ANYONE help???? I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of and still it doesn't work. You can reach me at either of the following 2 E-Mail addresses: jewit@prodigy.net OR jjewit@aol.com Thanks... John Witchey P.S. While I have you here, is Windows 98SE compatible with a RAID system??? If so then I just might go back to it as it is easier to work with... |
