How do I get the volume control and the task scheduler out of my systray? Every time I have to reinstall Win98SE I forgot how to do this little operation and the help menus are no help. Thanks

Sound is removed by going to Control Panel/Multimedia and unchecking the box to show the sound icon. Then click on Apply. You can remove the Task Scheduler in msconfig but it will come back after a bit.

Ahh, Multimedia did it, I didn't think of looking there. I had tried msconfig but didn't see the Task Scheduler. Thanks all.

To completely remove Task Scheduler (if it isn't needed by any of your automatic updates - for an antivirus, for example [though many recent programs have their own automatic components, and no longer rely on the Task Scheduler]) right-click on it's icon in the systray, choose Open. From the toolbar menus at the top of Task Scheduler, choose "Advanced", and then select "Stop using Task Scheduler". That will not only remove it from the systray, it also will keep it from loading at startup.
Best of luck . . . Gary |
