XP hiccups

Getting some hiccups (maybe every 5 seconds) when I run video encoding software (TMPGEnc). Has never happened before (I usually run TMPGEnc maybe 6-10 hrs/day w/ no problem). Seems like Windows Explorer hiccups and not Internet Explorer or any other application. TMPGEnc is running now and I have 35% of my memory (512 MB total) free. I did try to install another 256 MB memory 2 days ago but PC didn't accept it so I reinstalled my old memory which I've used for last 6 mths or so (and it registered on PC). I think this is when the problem might have started. I restored my PC to a few days ago (before this started) and I've reinstalled TMPGEnc but nothing. I ran Memtest today and my free memory checked out OK. I don't have an XP2 CD. Don't know what is going on.

IF the lag seems to happen using Explorer, try backing your video hardware acceleration back a notch. This makes SLOWWW machines light up like lightning sometimes. Also, if you are connected to a LAN it may cause a lag if you have any shares setup and the network is hanging things up a bit.
