Deleted files keep making copies of themselves

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine has a laptop running WinXP that when she deletes a file in explorer it makes a copy of the file within that same folder. Is there a way to fix this? Is it a setting of some type? Any help would be appreciated since searching didn't help.
Thanks

System files and Trojans/Worms do this.

What are some of the file names and what folders are they located in.

This great little program could help:

MoveOnBoot allows you to copy, move or delete files on the next system boot. This can come handy if you need to replace or delete files that are locked by other applications, loaded into memory or cannot be changed until next system boot.
