Lost my Win 98 SE Update CD
Hi,
I opened the jewel case to my 98 SE update CD and the Cd was gone, I must of left it in someone's machine. I looked on Microsoft's website and I can't find an update CD or any kind of update to take Win 98 to SE. I don't need it much anymore but I'd like to have it, I service PC's and every once in awhile I run accross an old PC that has Win 98 on it and I like to update it for the person. When I run windows update it doesn't list the SE update. Does anyone know where I might find the Second Editon update? TIA

Ebay, and they aren't cheap.
You do know that what you are doing is illegal? The update CD is licensed to only one computer. Had to say that. In reality, you can use *any* 98SE CD to update 98 original, it doesn't have to be the update. You just have to rename win.com in DOS before starting the install. |

Thanks glc, no I did'nt know that was illegal, I thought it was just an update to Win 98, just like the service packs for XP. All the PC's I updated had licensed and legal copies of Windows 98. I received my Win 98 SE update disk free from Microsoft way back when I had Win 98 for just the price of shipping. But I guess they are no longer doing that. Most of the PC's I'm doing this to are upgrading to XP anyway but I need their version of 98 to be SE for my portable hard drive to work so I can get their files. I will make sure I do not do it for anyone else who is going keep 98 as their operating system.

I paid like 20 bucks plus shipping direct from Microsoft, and I do remember that it was not a free upgrade just like a service pac...

You might be right, it was so long ago I don't remember the exact details, but it wasn't much. It should have been free, the original Win 98 was awful buggy, and SE seemed to correct much of the problems.
