Go to: Start > Run type in: services.msc find the service called Messenger, double-click it, set startup type to "disabled", and stop the service.

Hereis a link to "shoot the messenger". It does automatically what you did manually, but it may come in handy for you in the future.

Call me paranoid, but while I certainly think those programs are handy, and I know GRC is a reliable site, I'm always just a little bit leary of running a program to do something that is easily done manually. That said, for someone who may not be so comfortable disabling a service manually, those types of programs are fantastic.

I totally agree. I downloaded the program b/c as I was browsing for "shields up" I thought this was a way to stop MSN messenger from harassing me even after I disabled it manually.
