system32\drivers\pci.sys is corrupt
I seen another post about this problem but when I try to do a repair it is asking for a Administrator password, I never had a password in the first place. So how would I go about fixing this? Any help would be appreciated....Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I got that first problem fixed but now has another problem.
When I rebooted the pc it said that the file Ntfs.sys was missing or corrupted. I followed the procedures from the Microsoft site to restore the file. It said the file was restored but when I rebooted the pc, it still says the file was still missing or corrupted. I just tried to reinstall Windows and it won't let me since I have a Sata hard drive. How would I go about reinstalling Windows? Thanks I have a Dell 3.4ghz Pentium 4 HT 1gig DDR2 Ram Maxtor 250 gig SATA harddrive Nvidia GeoForce 256mb video card SoundBlaster Audigy2 sound card |

Call Dell. They will walk you through a reinstall. I can just about guarantee that they will have you wipe the drive, so I hope you have your data backed up.

Unfortunately I have no other choice, unless I can figure out how to get that file restored. This is the first time this has ever happened to me where I have sys files that are corrupted.
Thanks |

This issue can occur if a problem occurred within the Ntfs.sys file. The Ntfs.sys file is the driver file that enables your computer to read and write to NTFS partitions. Damage in the NTFS file system, damaged portions of your hard disk, or damaged SCSI or IDE drivers can also cause this issue.
Start the Chkdsk tool, which detects and attempts to resolve file system structural corruption:chkdsk drive: /f !!! If you would like to access Recovery console here is how: http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

Thanks for all your help and ideas but my luck it didn't work. I did a chkdsk and it said there were files corrupted. I also did a check on personal files that I had, all the folders read zero. Not sure what happened but what ever it was it hit me good and hard. I did have some files backed up but not all unfortunately. Luckily the files I did lose I could replace. All in all, it was a day to remember.
Thanks Again |

You should probably boot up the computer with the Dell resource CD and start running diagnostics - you may have some hardware that's failing.
