Hi all
Negeva - try the Windows Update Troubleshooter, available on the windows update site: it's pretty good. Panama is right that Windows Update still works on Win98 machines - I still use it regularly (we have some older dual-boot systems, and some Win98 "loaners" for clients leaving their computers for overnight repair). But the site Cricket links to is handy for machines temporarily having trouble with the official Windows Update site. It's happened in the past that Windows Update will still work long after the official support has ended for a Microsoft operating system. Usually the end of official support refers to the end of premium support plans and the pay-per-call plans. The support sites that are generally searched manually (Knowledge Base, TechNet archives, etc) stick around for a long time. I haven't tried to do a Windows Update on a Win95 machine in a while, but if I have spare time on my hands, I might see if that still works too. When it comes to support, Microsoft has generally preferred to err on the side of generosity. (So far!) . . . Gary |

Oh, I didn't know Microsoft backpedaled on the Win98 support. I still have one PC running Win98SE but haven't tried to update it in ages.

solved the problem, i needed to re-register some .dlls, the machine was infected some time back and the customer sent it to another place, they didn't do a proper repair job!
not a fan of the unofical service pack, seen to many problems with it. would be nice if M$ made one. |
