Help starting Win98
Hello i have a problem with my old laptop computer. It runs on Win98 first edition, and i had a problem while cleaning some spyware files out of my system. After re-booting, now i get to the point where the explorer desktop appears, but only the background, none of the desktop icons load up and i get an "illegal operation" message from windows explorer and cannot get anywhere. If i click on "details" it says Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module explorer.exe is there any way to fix this?? Because i can't do anything but move the mouse around in an empty explorer, everything else is gone now

Easiest fix I know is to do an "over the top" repair using the original 98 disk (not a restore disk). Or you could update to 98se (a better option) using the same method but using a 98se disk. You shouldn't loose any programs or personal files with this method. Follow the instructions here:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=70846 After the installation, you'll need to visit Windows Update for all the latest updates to 98. |
