Missing or corrupted file in W2K

Hi I'm back with problems, I recently rebooted after installing the latest security patches for W2K (it had Sp4 already). When i rebooted i got the corrupted or missing file WINNT/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM

Its a pain in the butt because my OS is running on a RAID array so I need to find those drivers before I can even use the recovery console. I did a few searches and it looks like some registry sector is corrupted. Dont know why that happpened... well I dont have any backups of my registry so what am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advance.

If you can access the drives go to C:\WINNT\repair and copy the system file to the C:\WINNT/SYSTEM32/CONFIG directory. If you have a RegBack folder in the C:\WINNT\repair directory all the better as it should be the latest modified registry hive.

One possible scenario would be to install a parallel system on the raid drives or to keep things simple, on an IDE drive, then access the above mentioned directories and make the repair. A bootable Linux CD would simplify things, boot to the Cd and then move the files and a paralell install wouldn`t be needed. One I use is, BeatrIX
