Computer Hangs during Windows XP SP2 Installation

Could anybody explain why my computer hangs up when I install the Windows-XP-SP2? As it always be, my comp allows me only to run on Windows XP. I use Chaintech Apogee 9PJL, P4 2.8E, Seagate SATA 80GB, Kingtons 512MB CL2.5. Hang-up happens when it prompts the Windows XP Logo..the scrolling bars just stop..(after Windows resets the first time) during the installation..

It usually means that one of the drivers isn't working/starting, can you run it in safe mode?

Or, try runing it in 'logged mode' then when it crashes again, and run it in safe mode (which hopefully should work). Then go to start>Run & type BOOTLOG.txt.

Hopefully that should tell you whats going wrong...

Update the bios for the motherboard. It's a problem with SP2 and the reding of the P4 CPU cache levels/microcode.

1) Goto manufacturers website and download the latest bios for your motherboard.
2) Read the instructions carefully before proceeding.
3) Flash bios.
4) Restart PC and windows should continue finishing installation.
