Guest Account
I've got a quick question. A friend of mine has Home edition (so the guest isn't a security issue) and uses the guest account to allow his roommate to use the computer. He says that you can't download stuff from the internet when on this account. Is this normal? 10ish minutes of Google searches couldn't help me and my guest account is kinda messed up....Thanks

There shouldn't be any restriction on the guest account on "downloading" content .. pretty much everything you see on a web browser is in fact "downloaded content" - it does get downloaded into the disk cache. It should depend on what the person is trying to download .. is it some activex control or some other probable security violation? It should also depend on where the person is trying to save the file. If it is on a location that is denied for guest access then that would be an issue as well. Also, if the downloaded content is using a helper application that is denied for guest use, then there could be an issue... for example say the person was trying to download an XLS, but Excel was off limits for guest access, then the content would obviously not get loaded up.
At this stage, you need more specifics on what download was attempted, rather than a generic question. |
