I think that you can delete that file w/o any problems, but if you are suspicious you can backup that file and then try to delete it!!!

desktop.ini files contain special folder information, usually customizations, but other info as well. I wouldn't suggest deleting it.

ok, I took a closer look at your initial post.

As far as I can tell, that actual entry is not a folder customization, but a shorcut link to run a dll file in 2003 server.

In this case, it's not really useful and can be deleted safely.

For future referece, you cannot just move desktop.ini files around, otherwise the customizations will applied to whichever folder you move it to.

I had the desktop.ini file show up on my Server 2003 desktop after installing SP1. When I opened it(I have .ini files configured to open with notepad) it was a link pointing to the new Security Configuration wizard. This seems to be misconfigured desktop icon that is installed with SP1. It's supposed to the way to open the wizard, but because it's misnamed it doesn't work correctly. At least that's what it was on my system.

There is some spyware out there that will mess with desktop.ini files - which the only way to fix things is to delete them. Toss it in the recycle bin, that's the safe way.
