service pack 2 problems

I recently build a new computer. installed windows xp without service pack 2.
automatic updates put sp2 on my computer. when rebooting moniter went black. I had to boot in safe mode and delete sp2 just to get working again. I need some direction on how to get it working with sp2 on my computer, because I need it to make my usb 2.0 conections to work.

Welcome to PCMech! How long between your build and the update? Is it possible your comp picked up any malware between the two?

Since this is a new build, it would be helpful to post some specs on the components.

Also if there is a BIOS update available I would flash the BIOS and then reinstall SP2. That is what I had to do to my Dell before I could install SP2.

I have better luck installing SP2 from a CD. You can order the CD from the Microsoft web site free. They even put a label on the CD asking you to make copies and distribute. Never saw them do THAT before.
