Win Explorer freezes when access removable drive
Can someone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot my problem?
My problem.... Windows Explorer (or My Computer window) will freeze when I attempt to access a file stored on a removable drive (Smartmedia). Explorer will read the directory and file list on the removable media but when I try to select a file on the media, Explorer will freeze. What I have done so far.... -tried to access files on the card on a different computer (it works) -the card reader is part of an HP Photosmart 8150 printer. I removed and reinstalled the printer drivers (didn't solve the problem) -looked at Device Manager (no apparent conflicts) -used msconfig to do a selective startup by unchecking "load startup items" (problem still exists) -checked for Doctor Watson dump (doesn't create a dump) -booted with a bootlog file (checked ntbtlog.txt file and to the extent of my ability, didn't see anything strange) -booted into Safe mode (I am able to access files on the removable media in Safe Mode. Therefore, I assume that I have a driver conflict somewhere.) -booted into normal mode and used Task Manager to sutdown all processes that were not running in Safe mode (still doesn't work) I didn't install any new programs immediately before the problem began. The only thing that would have been installed would been McAfee A/V and Microsoft Anti-Spyware updates. I have also run Ad-Aware and Spybot. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro SP3 Can anyone suggest what else I can do to identify the conflict? |
