Windows 98 SE will not update?
Hi, and thanks for reading.
I just installed windows 98 SE on an old computer for my mom, she got a new harddrive (20 GB, woohoo ), and wanted a fresh install. I'm using her old retail cd, and I thought I was all done, but it won't update. Never seen this before. Did I do something wrong? Did M$ give up on their support for this OS? I have a similar post for a ME system I'm working on. I have a computer for my brother with the same problem. I'm on vacation this week and thought it would be a good time to get this done for them. Maybe I was wrong?

It does not update my pc too. I guess that if you want to update it you will have to download each upadte 1 by 1, or trying the unofficial service pack. Anyways I did not see any improvement when I could update.

I got the update site to work on the ME system just a few minutes ago. I updated to IE 6.0, and after that I got a different error message. It used to tell me it that it performed an error and wanted me to click a link for support or read the web boards. But now it told me to check my clock. For some reason it was set to 6/20/2018.
Not sure how that happened. Changed the year and now it works just fine, as soon as I'm done with the 5,000 updates, [/sarcasm] I'll turn on the 98 SE system and intall IE 6.0 and see what happens after that. Maybe I'll try a different browser also, Foxfire or Maxthon.
