I was going to keep it on the same thread, but I didn't want people to page down and re-read the entire thread called XP install problem - or something like that.
Well I got the replacement disc yesterday. It installed on my slave and I ended up w/ two boot systems - one XP and one ME. Since it appeared to work fine, I reformatted my master drive and installed it on there. Now I've got two XP boot drives. I wanted to get rid of the slave boot, but I'm going to leave it there in case my master clonks out. My slave drive is new and my master is already 4 years old. So to summarize everything, it was that rare bad XP disc all along. Thanks again. Ann |

why dont you put the new drive as master, and the old one as slave and delete xp off of the old drive?

I'll think about it. I'm fine so far. I do wonder what problems it will cause, but I'll see soon enough. My WinME was unstable, so I'm curious what will happen with XP.

winME is just a horrible OS that never should of been released. XP and win2000 are stable OS.

Well done really pleased to hear that.
BTW ME is a great OS I have been using it for years without a single problem, I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about, maybe it's something to do with the user?

No, it's something to do with the designer. ;>
Me was really pushed for release. Microsoft wanted a new OS for the purpose of having a new OS, and worse, because they pushed so fast, the testing was lacking. Consider yourself lucky for getting by on Me with no problems; friend of mine who's also into computers says he hasn't had too much of a problem with Me, but I absolutely hated it. I switched to 2000 as soon as I could, or even back to 98SE. ....Now, I LOVED 98SE. ....But I'll admit it was a horrible OS in how often it crashed; those blue-screens were killer, and on my old 450 MHz system, I could only go about 3 days of SERIOUS multi-tasking before the thing just died and needed a restart. I LOVE XP. Pro, especially. Difference of night and day for stability (over 98SE, anyway), but lots of other tweaks. Honestly, if you can afford it, I'd say switch to XP, or at least 2000. ...Congrats on the install! |

My ME worked great in the beginning, but I think it's all this software conflict.
Right now I find some programs stalling out on me, more so my browser, but at least I'm able to close it without having to reboot. My only other problem is that it will turn on automatically, but I'll research that later. Again, many thanks. Ann |
