Windows install issue
I am trying to install windows on a machine for someone and am having an odd problem that i can't figure out how to fix. The install starts out just fine, formats the drive and copies all the files but when it goes to the first reboot to open the gui it says invalid bootdisk and if i leave the cd in it just keeps installing repeatedly. I have tried installing XP pro and 200 server and both are the same. The computer is an emachine (uhhgg, i know) with a p4.
Hopefully i have included enough info, tia for any help. Sean |

Hmm, have you tried switching the boot order from the CDROM to the HD after that first reboot? I've seen it recommended a few times and it has worked.

Ask the person if they were seeing the "invalid bootdisk" message prior to the reinstall.
Is the drive jumpered to master or cs?

Well, if you have removed the CD everytime then perhaps try doing it with the CD still in the drive.

Is your hard drive being recognized in the bios.... check your IDE cables and as mentioned check your jumpers.

Make sure that any bios virus protection is disabled. This will prevent writing to the boot sector if it's enabled.

Not necessarily an eMachine issue - if the drive is a Western Digital, it won't work jumpered to Master if it's the only drive on the cable. You have to use CS or remove the jumper.
