Repair XP Pro

I thought I read somewhere that it is possible to do a REPAIR on XP Pro with the CD, if you are having problems, or maybe a file is bad etc. When I load my XP Pro CD, my only choices are--Load Windows, Explore the CD, Add / remove components, Exit. If I was just dreaming that, then is there a similar feature like System File Checker (SFC) that was available in Windows 98 ?
Many thanks !

You have to boot to the CD not open it while your computer is running. Make sure the bios is set to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive, put the XP cd in the drive and exit the bios (saving any changes).

G'day
Of course there is a way. It is called "Install Repair or Repair Install" I don't remember well, But installs XP without you losing your installed programs nor you data files Although they reconnend you back up as much data as you can before doing it. I had downloaded exellent step by step instructions on how to do it, but after hardware problems I had to re format HDD and lost some data. Inever made a hard copy . May be some other PCMechanic Member be able to help with it.
