virtual memory question(s)
Ok, I have way more then enough RAM to run windows and any other application that I need, in other words I will never run short of memory and dont ever need to use my hard drive for ram. but there are some programs that require page file to be on.
my question is can I set up a RAM drive and put the pagefile on it? is this something that would not only work, but be worth doing? |

I ran my swap file on a ramdisk for a while. Was pretty nice till it crashed. I would not recommend doing it on a pc with important data.
This will be cool when it comes out: Computex: Gigabyte demos 4 GByte RAM disk By Wolfgang Gruener, Senior Editor June 1, 2005 - 11:55 EST Taipei - Fast alternatives to traditional harddrive storage have been a trend that especially resulted in Flash-based drives. Gigabyte showed at this year's Computex an even speedier device: A RAM disk with up to 4 GByte capacity and a battery to protect content when a PC is shut down. http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews...01_115506.html Gigabyte Brings Solid State Storage to the Mainstream http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/...spx?i=2431&p=5

thats cool, really that would be the way to do it, to not just have the swapfile on a ramdisk, but to be able to install the whole OS on a ramdisk, now that would be fast,
but as it says in my sig, twice as fast, half as long LOL |
