Make sure that any files your son needs is moved or copied off the hard drive in the DELL.

Boot the computer up and go into the BIOS. Change the first boot device to the CD-ROM. Put the DELL CD in the drive and then Save and Exit the BIOS. The computer will reboot to the CD in the drive and the WinXP installer will take over. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Then, after Windows is reinstalled, put the Dell Resource CD in and reinstall all the drivers.

you can update to the latest drivers by going to dells website, clicking on customer service and support>select home office>click downloads and drivers, enter your model number of your pc or the service tag to search for the downloads. select the drivers you want to update and download and install them. easiest way to find out what hardware you have in your pc would be to run the resource cd, and take note of all the hardware that the cd detects in your system. then go to the website to get the latest drivers. just make sure you have your network card drivers installed and you have a firewall installed.
