5.1 surround sound speakers wont stay [Applied]?

u know how u open "Sounds and Audio Devices" in cp
then select [Audio] tab
then [Advanced] in the "Sound Playback" box,
then [Speakers] tab
then select "5.1 surround sound speakers"
then click on [Apply] or [OK]

and it should save ur setting? well, on mine it wont save the "5.1 surround sound speakers" setting. always goes back to the "Desktop stereo speakers" setting.

anyone know the registry entry to force the "5.1 sss" setting?

also,
the 7.1 surround setting will "stay applied". wonderful. fabulous. and gay.

Do you have any diagnostic utilities within the soundcard software?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the soundcard software?

hrm. since i had nothing else to lose, i tried #2. removed soundcard ctrl software through remove programs. rebooted, and voila! select 5.1, apply, click ok. then click advanced and recheck to see if it kept 5.1 sss. and it was there! it stayed! imagine my euphoria.

now, i might be able to plant the drivers without installing the control software. or, i might try reinstalling the ctrl software and see if it will keep on a reinstall.

There was another PC Mecher here by the name of "Batgirl" she was having major problems with a soundblaster card, I have a soundblaster and after having a chat with her and boasting how I was so happy and had no problems and how she should consider a unstall/reinstall, my soundblaster software took a major nose dive For about six months every now and again my centre speaker would just stop working for no apparent reason, uninstall/reinstall the software and everything was great again, touch wood it hasn't happened for about a year now you watch it will be dead tomorrow.
