unexplained sounds
I've got all sounds turned off and yet, I still get different sounds when some programs open windows, close a window, etc. I just did a clean install of XP pro and I am just now getting things back to normal. I use Norton, Registry FirstAid, Adware, Spybot, Microsoft Antispy. Right after I get a sound I check the Control Panels for Sounds and it says I have all sounds turned off. Any suggetions? Thanks

Same with me, on some non-MS programs. The "sounds" in control panel are sounds tied to the OS. The sound you're hearing is probably from a program you've installed afterward. For example- I use SuperCleaner, and I usually get a beep or two running it. Check the program giving you the sound, and you may find a place to turn it off.
