Errors 4, 5 & 11, ACPI & Disk

Here is my scenario:

A Windows XP Pro system I am working on is producing three errors at regular intervals in the Event Log:

Error 4 : ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal I/O port
Error 5 : ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal I/O port
Error 11: Detected an error on device/hdd0

All three errors seem to be related and occur at the same time.

With regards Error 11, Microsft KB (MSKB) suggestes changing the IDE cable may rectify the problem, I have tried this without success. MSKB also suggests that the device, in this case the HDD, attached to the system maybe faulty. This is a brand new drive and I suspect this may not be the case.

The board is an ASUS, sorry dont know the model number. Previously the system had a HDD failure, I replaced the HDD and carried out a fresh install.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Could it be that the controller on the system board is on the way out?

This behavior may occur if your computer's basic input/output system (BIOS) tries to write to one of the earlier ports by using an AML [Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) Machine Language] System IO operation region. Your try may be blocked by Microsoft Windows XP because accessing these ports by using this mechanism is considered dangerous and can cause system instability. This feature is designed to improve the stability of your computer's operating system.

Try LOADING DEFAULT SETTINGS in the BIOS & reinstall WinXP.

It probably will, but you can download diagnostic tool for yours HDD. You only have to know who is manufacturer of yours HDD then go on their web site and download diagnostic tool !!!
