Services?

I have a 1Ghz comp with 256MB DDR333 RAM. Well, not the fastest actually.
I want to turn off a lot of things which I don't use so much in WinXP. I've seen Services but I'm not sure which one to turn it off... And is my computer sufficient to run WinXP that way?

Exclamation

http://www.what-process.com/index.aspx you can see almost every service name and for what is used but if there is no answer for one of yours just google and find out about specific service!!!!

This one is even better: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

You have to be careful with disabling services as many are needed by the system for normal operation. Other than disabling the Messenger service for security and Automatic Updates because I check regularly myself and don`t want the pop ups all the time, I leave most alone. IPSec could be disabled I guess but even that is set at automatic and not taking system resources.

There used to be a great site with all the information you could ever want on Windows services at www.blackviper.com, but unfortunately he had his domain name taken from him and it's gone now. However, you can find archives of his site here: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.blackviper.com/

I read that his domain name registration expired and somebody jumped in and took it. I don't know if that is true or not, though.

That's really unfortunate. That was such a great site. The guides (most notably the services guide) were top notch, and he had some interesting editorial type pieces too.
