Unhappy Managing Tapes

I need help! I'm backing up our company files to a tape. I scheduled the back up to occur in the middle of the night. When I check it in the morning, it says that the back up did not occur because the "specified media was not available." Well I put a brand new tape in the tape drive, so I don't know why it can't find it. I've been trying to find help on this, and I found that it may have something to do with using "Removable Storage". I have no idea how this works. I can get into it through "Computer Management", but I don't know where to go from there. I would appreciate any info you could provide on using tapes. Thanks.

What back-up program are you using? if you try to do an immediate(one-touch) back-up, what device does it attempt to use?

First of all, does the drive work? Can you do a backup manually?
