DVD-rom / DVD-RW doesn't show up

I tried to install Clone DVD2 that worked fine on my other older P4 system and it screwed my new AMD system. It deleted my DVD-rom and DVD-RW drives and now I can not see them. They say the drivers must be corrutped. It has exclamation mark in teh device manager, however I do not have driver for the drives. never came with it.

My dvd and dvd-rw were working fine before. As soon as I installed the program it asked me if I wanted to restart and I said no then it just shut off and a few seconds later booted back up again. Strange??

I have Win. XP Pro on my P4 and AMD systems.

When you install a program and it wants to reboot the comp, most of the time, it's wise to do so.

What program is it?

It was clone dvd. But let me just ask you. My dvd-rom and rw do not show up in my computer and when I go to device manager it says that they have an error. What should I do to install them properly, I can not find the drivers for them and they did not come with drivers

Thumbs up

dvd roms and dvd-rws dont need drivers so dont worry about that it has something that's called firmware of which some can be updated.as to why it's not working or the exclaim mark i dont know but one of the things i would try in a case like this is probably unplug them and plug them back in just to make sure that they are seated properly. am sure others have different solutions which you can also try. hope this helps you.

Try uninstalling the drives through the Device Manager and then rebooting. If that doesn't work the Windows drivers are corrupted. I don't know what the name of the drivers are, but you should be able to find that out through drive's properties page found through Device Manager. Once you know the names extract those drivers from your XP disk to some place on your hard drive and then copy them into the c:\Windows/Winnt\system32\drivers folder and tell it to replace the existing files by that name. That will take care of a corrupted driver issue. I've done this a few times to fix that sort of problem as Windows will see a driver by the correct name and refuse to install a new driver over the top of the old one.

I don't run XP so I'm unsure if the the OS is installed in c:\Windows or c:\Winnt so that's why I put Windows/Winnt in the path. Just use the appropriate name for XP.

Not quite. They *do* need drivers, however, you do not need to install them via a driver CD because generic drivers are available within the operating system.

Firmware should only be updated if you are experiencing a described problem that a newer version addresses.

Do you have CloneDVD2 installed right now? If so, try uninstalling it since the problems you are experiences happened just after installing it.
