Ok, got a new problem here. My friends monitor stopped working. So I took my monitor over and plugged it in, no good. So I installed an old video card and hooked her monitor to it and After two restarts, Bingo monitor works again. So I guess her video card went bad, it is also installed on her motherboard. But now I have a monitor that works but here is my new problem, since she shut down improperly, when windows starts it goes into chkdsk. It says "Checking file system on C:" after it checks it it says "File folder verification is complete" it then gives a few specks like (1703472 total allocation units on disk) etc. etc. But then it doesn"t go any further it just hangs there. Shouldn"t it go on and start windows from there? Or is it waiting for a response from me? What Response? It also says in the beginning that I can stop the process but recommends I continue, but how do I do That? I keep getting chkdsk because I can't shut the system down normally! I tried pressing Ctrl ALt Delete 3 times and that did not work. I also got the system to start in safe mode but then the mouse froze up on me? SO I still couldn't shut down normally! Any Advice out there, this is driving me nuts! How can I shut sown the system normally without the mouse in safe mode, or how can I exit the chkdsk so it loads up windows normally? HELP! this is windows XP home edition!

Sounds to me like the improper shut down corrupted enough things that chkdisk isn't able to repair the damage. You might try a repair install from the XP disk if you have one. If that doesn't work, you're stuck with a complete rebuild--reformat and reinstall from the manufacturer's rebuild disk set or from the XP disk.

Maybe you should try and use recovery console from XP CD, because looks like your chkdsk is stack in loop try running CHKDSK /F from recovery console and even try to run FIXBOOT when in recovery console type HELP to see list of commands that you can run!!!

It's been a while since I've seen that screen...I think if you hit the Escape key when it's running Check Disk, it will exit. If not, try hitting the Tab key to highlight Exit then hit Enter. HTH

No problem. If you aren't sure where to put it, take your best guess and we'll move it if there's a better place. Point is, please open only one thread. Thanks!
