appearance of unwanted jpeg image

My first:

Can anyone shed some light on how I can get rid of a full screen jpeg image has begun to appear on screen when I logout, restart or shutdown W2K?
This also happens after restarting the OS and entering my login password.
The image holds for approx. 5-10 seconds. I don't object to the image
myself but others using the box would be offended.

TIA,

I believe you need to right click on the desktop and go to the background tab. Then click browse. It should open by default in the WINNT directory where the other backgrounds are. Find the offending picture and delete it. If it is being stored somewhere else browse to it and delete.

solution

KA,

I appreciate the help. Searching the backgrounds yielded nothing out
of the ordinary but doing a search using keyword "wallpaper" exposed
the culprit. Saving a jpeg as wallpaper had created a bitmap image that
was appearing as described in my original post. It's appleal was limited
to a little less than half the population and had to go.
thanks again,

KA,

It was a little less than a bikini shot. I don't have a lot
of imagination. I think the problem with the image, technically,
was that it was never converted back to a jpeg and placed in
the folder with all the other wallpaper. I have tested this
a couple of times since yesterday and have been successful in converting
my images to wallpaper.

I know this is about Winnt but on windows 98 the widows splash screen which is what shows up on start up and shut down are saved as "logonw.sys (startup screen) and logos.sys (shut down). You can edit these by right clicking on them and use open with: mspaint.

Hope this helps you out.
by the way these files were in the windows directory.

Sounds like its the "default" wallpaper now..

Open regedit (Start > Run > regedit)
and navigate to :
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

Is there a keyname called:
Wallpaper
If so change it to the directory location of a harmless one or delete that particular (Wallpaper) keyname

If there isnt a key, try making one.
keyname: Wallpaper
Data: C:\WinNT\Greenstone.bmp
