Angry Fire "Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime."

I am now unable to install any new software. Tried quicken, gave up and got MS Money, then tried "Silent Service 3" and it won't load. NOW I'm steamed! Ran avg and discovered over viruses located in java. (shinwow and byte verify). Obviously I will have to remove the viruses, but is it possible that they have destroyed my ability to install new software? If so, how can I repair this? I contacted installshield and their patch was no help. How can I get my SS3 loaded? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed, your ability to install programs could have been damaged but you might want to check services and make sure Windows Installer service is enabled. It should be set to manual.

From Control Panel\Administrative tools\Services Scroll down through the services and find Windows Installer. It should be set at manual. If it is disabled right click\properties and set to manual.

If it is already set to manual you can check that it is set to logon local system account and RPC is set as a dependency.

Thanks GLC, been there, done that, as they say. That was one of my first steps. Finally got it touch with them personally, and was told my files (installshield) might be corrupted. Does this sound right? I have loaded all the "Fixes" but still no good.

You may want to try running sfc.

start\run\cmd. type sfc.exe /scannow. Have your XP installation disk handy.

Ok. Did that. I saw a brief flicker, and that was all.

You have to run sfc from the cmd prompt, start\run\cmd not start\run\sfc

Hello Perry266, if your Windows Installer is corrupted do this.

1. Unregister and then reregister Windows Installer

a. Click Start, and then click Run
b. In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
NOTE: Make sure there is a space between msiexec and /

2. Reregister Windows Installer

a. Click Start, and then Run
b. In the Open text box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK.
This should clear up your problem.
