Boom Office 2003 - extremely slow to open up!

Hi. It takes me about a minute to open up any Office document (Word, Excel etc). This problem started a week ago, when I had to do two things the same day on my laptop: reinstall SP2 and install Symantec Antivirus and Firewall.

When I double click on any Office file, there is this long waiting period before teh file opens up. I have tried disabling, and even uninstalling the Symantec software, and it's still the same. This perceivied conflict could only be a coincidence. ANY SUGGESTIONS please?

I have my Office 2003 fully updated, and am running the following:
Intel Pentium M Processor 715A (1.50GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB)
15.4 inch WUXGA LCD
1GB, DDR2,400MHz 1 Dimm
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300Video Card
60GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2

HELLPPP! Thanks.

Any reason why you had to install SP2? Is your system clean of spyware or other pests?
Have you installed all components of Office to run from your hard drive?
If possible, I would suggest reinstalling/repairing Office 2003 and see if it works.

Hi. I had to reinstall SP2 in an attempt to get another software (work related) to work.

I have tried repairing and reinstalling Office. All components of Office are set to run from the hard drive.

Help!

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! It does seem to be much faster if I have the application (e.g. Word) open first. What does this mean though?

Thanks.

Hi - still having the same problem with SLOW opening of Office documents when I double click on any document.

It opens fast enough when I open a document via the application though.

Help!!!

I am almost at a point of wanting to reformat my drive and reinstall everything, as painful as that may be. I did not realize I had to open so may Office files in a day!! Yikes.

Hi Rasu,

Have you tried cleaning out all the junk and also running a disk defragmenter? If you have been installing/adding large files or many files its likely that yourdrive may have got fragmented and is a reason for this slow down in applications. you could try running disk clean up and defrag it out bfore you go for a reformat. Gud Luck.
